Members of The Women’s Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, recently raised over $5,000 in donations for The Christian Shelter at the annual Women’s Fund holiday reception in December. The Christian Shelter is a nonprofit which provides emergency temporary shelter, nutritious meals and related services and has assisted over 28,000 individuals and provided over 500,000 meals since 1980.
The reception, held at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, supports a different nonprofit cause each year.
“Over the winter season the shelter will be home to at least 55 individuals at any given time, with about half of those served being children. The contributions made by the Women’s Fund members help make winter a bit warmer for all by supporting safe emergency shelter and meals for homeless women, men, and children,” says Community Foundation President Erica Joseph. “The Holiday Reception truly is a gathering with a purpose,” said CFES President Erica Joseph.
“Community support is vital to our ability to serve the most vulnerable in our Community and we sincerely appreciate this special blessing from the Women’s Fund,” says Christian Shelter Director, Jim Barnes. “While we sheltered, fed, clothed and served over 1,140 persons in the past twelve months, over 1,600 people had to be turned away. The need for services is always on going.”
