Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore has donated $5,000 to the Maryland Food Bank for its involvement with the Shorebirds 2012 Strike Out Hunger Challenge on Delmarva. Partnering organizations include: Perdue Farms and the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, area local food banks, and the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Dollars will support the Maryland Food Bank’s efforts to fight hunger on Delmarva’s Lower Eastern Shore.
According to Jennifer Small, Branch Manager, Maryland Food Bank, “Because of our partnership with the Community Foundation, Perdue and the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Eastern Shore branch of the Maryland Food Bank exceeded its 2012 Perdue Strike Out Hunger Challenge exceeded goal. In fact, due to the campaign’s success, we were able to distribute almost 46,000 meals throughout our region!”
This partnership has given the Maryland Food Bank exposure during a time of the year when the food bank faces challenges with volunteerism, financial support and food donations. Maryland Food bank has designated this campaign as a signature event because “the community is supporting us in the off-season,” continues Small. “This initiative allows us to be a presence in the community year round.”
“We have an opportunity to help educate and raise the community’s awareness regarding hunger in our region and we are committed to helping Perdue, the Maryland Food Bank and the Shorebirds in this important initiative,” stated Doug Wilson, President, Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
