Join us in our mission to inspire volunteerism across Delmarva and mobilize more than 100 volunteers in projects led by people just like you! The ShoreLEAD Volunteer Academy is an exciting opportunity for aspiring volunteer leaders on the Lower Eastern Shore to develop a community project to be completed on or before Make a Difference Day – The National Day to Help Others – October 26, 2013.
Participants will take part in a comprehensive training series and will be eligible to apply for grant funding to support their work. This opportunity to make volunteerism viral on the Lower Eastern Shore will start with an application acceptance period that ends on April 30th. Up to a dozen volunteer leaders will be chosen to participate in the MDLA Academy that begins in May.
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Prior experience in volunteering, community engagement, and/or event planning will be beneficial to participants of this program, but is not required of applicants.
While Make a Difference Day is just one day, the skills developed during this training program will benefit our community for years to come. In 2012, the Make a Difference Leadership Academy generated a variety of volunteer projects, including backpack giveaways, wheelchair ramp construction, and cemetery clean up. The Academy engaged over 100 volunteers and served over 400 people through the ShoreCAN Volunteer Center. The Academy will end with a Celebration of Service event for all volunteers, stakeholders, and service projects.
